-As a music lover, I get excited for the performances on The Voice. I love seeing who turns around and who doesn't. I love when the judges do the "pick me, pick me" thing. I love the Adam/Black bromance, and CeeLo's wacky outfits, but here's why it's such a bummer that Xtina is taking a hiatus from the show...I'm really going to miss her clothes, her eye shadow with the sparkles, her hair and of course her saggy boobs that have some sort of sticky super power that keeps them from exploding onto my TV screen each week. I'm going to stay in the moment each week and enjoy the entire Xtina experience this season and just hope that Shakira is 1/2 as interesting when she arrives next season.
As for Monday night's performers:
Michelle Brooks Thompson: Sob Story score on a scale of 1-5....2 (husband's dream of an NFL career crushed). Amazing version of Proud Mary, 3 out 4 chairs turned, Team Adam.
Diego Val: Sob Story score 3 (overcame childhood disease). Interesting version of "Animal" by Neon Trees. 1 out of 4 chairs turned, Team CeeLo
Lauren Brook: Sob Story score 2 (overcame Dyslexia/Uncle died) pretty boring version of "Cowboy Casanova". Nobody turned around
Suzanna Choffel: Sob Story score 0 (she didn't have one) really decent version of Stevie Nicks' "Landslide". 2 out of 4 chairs turned, Team Blake
Dez Duran: Super cute guy who tried out last season, if he had a sob story we weren't made aware of it. He sang "Sara Smile", a tough song to sing. 3 out of 4 chairs turned, Team Xtina. VJ: Bow tie wearing music teacher, no sob story, sang CeeLo's song "Forget You" pretty poorly, nobody turned around, but CeeLo did sing with him, oh well... buh bye VJ.
Alexis Marceu: sob story score 5(Lost everything in Hurricane Katrina). Sang "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac, I hated her version. Alexis looked just like Miyam Bialik. 1 out of 4 chairs, Team CeeLo
Brandon Mahol : Sob Story score 1(had to move from tough life in Chicago), I didn't know the song he was singing but it was good. 3 out of 4 chairs turned around, Team Adam.
Jeffery James: Sob Story score 1(works 2 jobs). Sang "A Little Less Conversation" by Elvis. I'm not a big Elvis fan, but he was really good and nobody turned around. I felt really bad for him.
Jordan Pruitt: No Sob Story at all. Was a Disney singer. Sang Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away". 1 out of 4 chairs turned, Team Xtina.
Theresa Griffin: No real Sob Story. Sang Adele's "Someone LIke You" (If I never hear this song again, it would be okay by me) 2 out of 4 chairs turned, Team Blake.
-I was really looking forward to the return of How I Met Your Mother, and while it was good to have a new episode, it still did what it always did...teased us with yet another clue of who the Mom is. ENOUGH people...I need to know who Mrs. Moseby is already. I can't take it any longer! So, while this episode left me hanging yet again, there were some other things going on. If you remember, last season, Robin and Barney were about to get married, Marshall and Lily had baby Marvin and Ted and Victoria were on the run. When we jump back into the story, Robin and Barney are having second thoughts (but they both don't know it), Lily and Marshall are so sleep deprived that they accidentally tell Quinn that Barney and Robin dated and Ted tries to find out why Klaus, Victoria's fiancé doesn't want to marry her. He tells Ted that Victoria is great but she' lebenshiltizn ( no idea, a crazy German word) which means she has almost everything you want but there's something missing. So we know Ted's going to dump Victoria, we just aren't sure when, and we know that Barney's going to dump Quinn, but we just don't know when. Carter Bays if you are reading this...please, please reveal the real Mrs. Moseby. Thanks in advance.
-I watched the Partners pilot in May during the upfronts. I didn't love it, but figured I'd try it one more time just to be sure. The Smallville guy's hair bugged me, Lewis bugged me, and there is just NO way that Sofia Bush would be with Joe...no way. I think I said that before and I feel the same way now. The director did everything he could to come up with scenes that showcased Sofia Bush's butt, which I admit is probably a good strategy, because she does have THE perfect butt, but it only reconfirmed my original thought...This girl would never be with a guy like Joe...never. No season pass, sorry Partners.
-You guys know that I don't watch Dancing with the Stars, but since so many of you do, I have hired a temporary DWTS WWTM Correspondent who will be filling in the gap for me...so readers...may I introduce, Ed Ziskind with the DWTS Report:
Dancing With The Stars is back! The show had a couple of seasons where viewers didn't connect with their stars and it showed in the ratings. I mean, Steve Wozniak? Really?
Enter season 14, the All-Star Edition. While there's absolutely nowhere to go but down in future seasons, let's enjoy the All-Star ride of the show that has everything! Competition, drama, comedy, rumors, gossip, speculation and lots more – including stars on and off the stage, and a very deserving Emmy win for host Tom Bergeron.
Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan is back! She got knocked off in season 5 after viewers assumed her score would keep her in the competition and didn't vote for her. This season she got voted into all-stars by the viewers! Nice touch.
Another nice touch – Bristol Palin and Indy Car Racer Hélio Castroneves are dancing in front of their kids this time around. Their kids weren't old enough to enjoy it the first time. Well done, producers. You see – the show that has everything!
The only person I can think of that I miss having on the show is Donnie Osmond. He came from virtually nowhere to win Season 9.
It's always fun to play the "did they do it" game during this show. So far, my money is on Pamela Anderson and Tristen and Kelly Monaco and Val. And it's only week one!
The over/under on the number of times Carrie Ann Inaba acts like a cat in heat this season is 25.5. +1 on the board for her reaction to Apollo Anton Ohno. +1 more for Emmit Smith. Does anyone want the under? Anyone?
We need to lose the half-points on the ratings system. That's hard for fans to embrace.
But overall, a great start to season 14.
Thanks Ed...great job!
-Okay guys...I am telling you this is what you need to do...Showtime is running a Homeland marathon starting Saturday 9/29 at 12N until Midnight. So bag the errands, forget your kid's soccer game, don't cut the lawn and just plop yourself down on your couch and watch the entire series. If you get it done, you'll be all ready for Sunday's Season 2 premiere. You WILL thank me when you're done.
-Here's why Oprah needs to read this blog. If anyone knows that Sunday nights in general, are super competitive TV wise...it's me. I keep typing and typing and none of these network executives listen...move some of the cool stuff to another night. PLEASE! This coming Sunday is a HUGE TV night. In addition to Homeland's premiere, there is also the season premiere of Once Upon a Time, Revenge, 666 Park Avenue, The Good Wife, The Amazing Race, Football, all of the FOX animation, a new show on PBS that's getting some buzz called Call the Midwife, Real Housewives of NJ Reunion, Married to Jonas, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter and Breaking Amish so when Oprah has an interview with Stephen Colbert that normally I would want to watch, I curse her and say...run it on Friday or Saturday...any other day and MAYBE you'll get a rating, but on Sunday night against all of these other AMAZING shows...nobody's going to watch Oprah...nobody!
Chart of the day...nothing earth shattering, but a good chart is a good chart.
